Original of the Species是Bono獻給他的兩位女兒，是父女關係很有趣的寫照。

Original of the Species收錄在2004年推出的專輯How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb。How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb總共拿下八座葛萊美獎，所有被提名的項目都得獎，極為風光。How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb奪得2006年Album of the Year和Best Rock Album，Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own奪得Song of the Year和Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal，City of Blinding Lights奪得Best Rock Song。

消失的地平線（No Line on the Horizon）

從2004年推出了How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb之後，U2讓樂迷望穿秋水地經歷了U2生涯上最漫長的等待，約五年後才推出最新專輯No Line on the Horizon，這是U2的第12張錄音室專輯。




這是張很棒的專輯，是出乎我意料中的精彩！不過，其評價卻和他們其他多數專輯一樣，很兩極化。Blender、Rolling Stone和Q給這張專輯五顆星的評價。Mojo和Uncut給四顆星的評價，Entertainment Weekly和BBC Music給高度評價，NME給不錯的評價；可是TIME卻給非常糟的評價，標題就非常不客氣地寫道「U2's Unsatisfied — and Unsatisfying — New Album」。

U2是有卅多年歷史的樂團，他們在八十年代的The Joshua Tree以及在九十年代的的Achtung Baby與Zooropa依然是樂迷心中無法動搖的無敵經典圭臬。 U2超過卅年的搖滾生涯，大致上可以分類為：早期後龐克、英國時代、美國時代，電音實驗時代，和「現在」。所謂的「現在」就是指2000年瀕臨解散又光榮回歸後至今，這段無法歸類的時期。

自從U2推出超級叫好叫座的Achtung Baby與Zooropa，接下來的Pop卻讓U2重重從天上摔到地上！要不是後來推出的All That You Can't Leave Behind讓他們挽回了樂迷的心，否則U2的解散只會是遲早的問題。不過，All That You Can't Leave Behind雖然吸引了許多新樂迷，不過有些死忠樂迷仍然失望，因為U2在All That You Can't Leave Behind，似乎想要穩紮穩打，不太進行實驗性的大膽嘗試了。

基本上呢，我給No Line on the Horizon四顆星半的評價。音樂的喜好是很主觀的，也是為何No Line on the Horizon會超級兩極化。就TIME的評論而言，我就無法接受為何No Line on the Horizon的地位會比U2上一張專輯How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb還差。在我心目中，No Line On The Horizon絕對不是他們最差的專輯，甚至連「不錯」都還不至於。How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb在TIME的評論中，居然和許多專輯的地位一樣，例如All That You Can't Leave Behind，光這一點我就無法接受。

All That You Can't Leave Behind是很棒的專輯，可是How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb在我心目中，卻是一張令人失望的專輯。原因不是因為裡頭的歌不好聽。事實上，How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb是張「很好聽」的專輯，裡頭有好些我喜愛的歌曲。令我大失所望的原因，和不少樂評及樂迷的理由一樣：U2如果只能寫出好聽的歌，他們還能夠算是偉大的樂團嗎？我覺得，How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb是一張沒有太多新意，而且又缺少了什麼的專輯，給我一種失落感。

好吧，或許我和樂評都是主觀的，那來看看廣大的樂迷的評價吧。基本上，我認為Amazon.com上樂迷的評價相當能夠反映出U2樂迷對專輯的普遍評價。迄今No Line on the Horizon在Amazon.com的316位評價者中，平均有3.8顆星。而Achtung Baby呢，則是4.8顆星，幾乎是滿分！接下來呢，是4.6顆星的War和The Joshua Tree，然後4.5顆星的Boy和The Unforgettable Fire，再來是4.3顆星的October，下來是4.2顆星的Pop，再下來是4.1顆星的Rattle and Hum和Zooropa。All That You Can't Leave Behind得到4顆星，而How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb只有3.3顆星:(

由此可見，How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb的確才是U2最失敗的作品。讓U2慘遭滑鐵盧的Pop，其實並沒有太糟。Pop失敗之處，我想有兩點：一、樂迷對U2期待太高，可是U2卻沒交出好成績；二、U2趕著準備PopMart巡迴演唱會，沒有好好用心地錄音，以致品質下降。可是他們後來推出的精選輯中，把Pop的歌曲補錄了音，證實Pop其實是有經典好歌的。

好吧，在我心目中，U2不可撼動的經典是The Joshua Tree，接下來是Achtung Baby，然後是The Unforgettable Fire和No Line on the Horizon、接著是Zooropa和All That You Can't Leave Behind，而Boy、War、October、Rattle and Hum以及Pop則平起平坐，How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb則墊底。

No Line on the Horizon是一張很棒的專輯，不僅是有好歌──好聽的歌而已，而是一張求變的專輯。自從Achtung Baby與Zooropa之後，U2似乎就不太求變了，實驗性的大膽嘗試愈來愈少，也越來愈不太精彩。可是，在No Line on the Horizon中，U2又再度求變了，雖然在程度和效果上，還沒超越Achtung Baby與Zooropa，所以還是讓少數人失望。然而，對我而言，No Line on the Horizon中的實驗性嘗試，是適度的，否則U2再也不再U2，我也會害怕的。

U2和導演Anton Corbijn合作攝製的一齣默片電影Linear，全片使用No Line on the Horizon的所有歌曲當作配樂。No Line on the Horizon推出五個版本：普通CD版、LP版、Digipak版（Album CD及Linear網路下載）、雜誌版（CD加60頁雜誌及Linear網路下載）以及豪華版（Album CD加60頁精裝書及Linear的DVD）。我的是雜誌版。

No Line on the Horizon在許多國家都衝到唱片銷售排行的第一名。也因為和上一張專輯相距甚久，U2寫了很多歌，打算在今年底或明年初，再推出一張專輯，標題暫訂Songs of Ascent，據說會帶有朝聖式的靈幻色彩。

No Line on the Horizon專輯封面採用了深受達達主義與超現實主義啟發的日本攝影大師杉本博司（Hiroshi Sugimoto）一張呈現海洋與天空密合在一起的黑白攝影作品Boden Sea, Uttwil，這是一幅帶著無限禪意的畫面。很不巧的，Taylor Deupree在2006 的專輯 Specification. Fifteen.中也用了同一樣照片，只是後者僅呈現海洋的部分，引起一些爭議。杉本博司讓U2免費使用那張經典照片，條件是不許在照片上加上文字，以及他可以用U2的歌來當宣傳。

No Line on the Horizon的主打歌是Get On Your Boots，充滿動感。是Bono寫在伊拉克戰爭前夕，當時他和寶貝女兒在法國尼斯的遊樂園遊玩。歌詞有嘲諷戰爭前夕，眾人仍舊歌舞昇平的味道。

我最喜愛的歌是Moment of Surrender，Bono描寫人生困境的細膩，令人驚嘆。Moment of Surrender一如One及Stay (Faraway, So close!)，蒼涼卻不絕望，哀而不傷。除了Stand Up Comedy、Magnificent、Fez – Being Born、I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight及Breathe等充滿激情的歌曲，No Line on the Horizon一如其封面般充滿禪意，Cedars of Lebanon冷靜而內斂。講述一名在阿富汗戰事中垂死之士兵的White As Snow，意境悲凉，將會出現在今年的戰爭電影Brothers中。No Line on the Horizon基本上，是一張相當全面的專輯。

為了這張專輯，紐約市長彭博（Michael Bloomberg）還把紐約市第53街命名為「U2 Way」。U2準備在今年8至10月在世界舉辦巡迴演唱會U2 360° Tour，真希望有機會去參加盛舉。

【分享】草泥馬之歌

草泥馬的典故（出處）：

在荒茫而美麗的馬勒戈壁上。生活著一群頑強的草泥馬。（因為草泥馬實是主要物種，所以馬勒戈壁又叫草泥馬戈壁）草泥馬們克服了戈壁的艱苦環境，並頑強的生活下來。戈壁上缺少水缺少食物，草泥馬能進食的只有一種草——臥草。然而臥草一般生長在人類的聚集點附近。所以草泥馬一生都是於人類相依為伴的。

在一個草泥馬群居點。筆者認識了朝泥族青年，朝泥兩次。他告訴筆者部族裡只有成年男性才可以配有一匹草泥馬。草泥馬分為三個品質。最下等才叫做草泥馬。中等 的叫做臥槽泥馬。而最上等的是狂槽泥馬。狂槽泥馬是馬王，要部族裡騎術最好的人才能獲得。朝泥兩次說自己因為騎術好。還沒成年的時候就獲得了狂槽泥馬。說 完他立刻露出的靦腆的笑容。隨即筆者來到了朝泥兩次的家。他的母親熱情接待了我們。喝了些許馬奶，就到了睡著了。醒來後發現朝泥兩次的父親朝泥大爺也回到 了家。我便跟朝泥大爺聊了起來。朝泥大爺顯現出了憂傷的表情：「日子不好過了，我們家以前是買馬匹的。現在改行割皮包了。因為草泥馬吃的食物臥草幾乎全被 一種叫鶴蟹的動物吃掉了。他說他也不知道鶴蟹是怎麼來的。但是隨著食物的減少。草泥馬數量也在急劇減少。」說罷流下了痛心的眼淚。

鮮紅的晚霞和岩石如同一對輕騎。護送筆者離開馬勒戈壁，在緩緩的落日下看著一群一群的草泥馬湮沒在沙塵之中。或許如果不保護環境。最後倒下的必將是人類……

自從一月間橫空出世以來，「草泥馬」在中國迅速竄紅，這頭「網路神獸」已不再只是一種現象，而是成了中國網民嘲諷、抵抗當局網路審查制度的象徵。

視訊分享網站YouTube的草泥馬兒歌點閱人次已高達一百四十萬，關於牠習性的紀錄片有逾十八萬人次觀看；商店正在出售草泥馬玩偶；連知識份子也撰寫草泥馬的社會意義，「草泥馬」（操Ｘ媽）大戰邪惡「河蟹」（暗喻胡錦濤所提倡之「和諧」社會）的故事正在網路上廣為流傳。

草泥馬在中文諧音中的意思特別低級齷齪，這也正是它想要表達的，顯示網民對當局的不滿和憤怒，主因之一是去年底中國網路出現聲援連署「零八憲章」的聲音後， 北京當局開始積極執行所謂「整治互聯網低俗之風專項行動」。至二月中旬為止，已經關閉了一千九百多個網站及兩百五十個部落格，不只色情網站，連涉及政治與 其他敏感議題的線上論壇與即時通訊群組，甚至手機簡訊都遭查禁。

中國部落格界因言論尺度較開放而備受讚譽的「牛博網」，也遭封網，原因可能是有許多自由派思想的部落客在此高談「零八憲章」細節。

在中國極權體制下，「草泥馬」被視為破壞性舉動的例子之一，但卻能以諧音躲過嚴密審查。這種惡搞雙關語不僅凸顯中國政府審查制度之荒謬，也使北京嚴控網路資訊流通的能力面臨考驗。

加州大學柏克萊分校的中國互聯網項目主任蕭強指出，草泥馬已成了反抗中國審查制度的標誌。「這種表達與卡通影片或許是對不合理統治做出幼稚反應，但事實卻是廣大的網路人口，從正經八百的學者到向來對政治冷感的都會白領階級，都加入了這個大合唱，顯示出這種感受有多強烈。」

美國耶魯大學政治人類學家詹姆斯．史考特所著的《弱者武器》（Weapons of the Weak）一書，描述了無力的農人如何反抗獨裁政權。中國知名部落客、北京清華大學社會學系教授郭於華就把草泥馬比喻為網路時代的「弱者武器」。

中國網民把當局整肅網站、限制言論自由，演繹為一場「草泥馬」與「河蟹」的戰爭，而眾多中國網民深信，草泥馬終究會戰勝邪惡的河蟹。

到底什麼是「草泥馬」？（出處 ）

• 草泥馬：草泥馬分三種，最下等的叫「草泥馬」、中等的叫「臥槽泥馬」，最上等的叫「狂草泥馬」。草泥馬發音為：ㄘㄠ ㄋㄧˇ ㄇㄚ。

• 臥草：臥草是一種植物，一般生長在人類的聚居點附近，為草泥馬的唯一食物，可惜後來被「河蟹」吃光光了，因此以豢養大戶「草泥大爺」為首的受害者集團，紛紛跳出來大喊「草泥河蟹」...。臥草，發音為：ㄨㄛˇ ㄘㄠ。

• 河蟹：河蟹為「和諧」的諧音，在中國發表了「不和諧」、破壞社會穩定的言論，會被OOXX、OOX，目前在草泥馬的好朋友「音囧馬」的協助之下，已陸續引進台灣，橫行台灣某些BBS站與老虎網、科技類論壇，如果你常常發現自己的發言莫名其妙的被劣退，大概都是被河蟹給吃了。

• 臥槽泥馬：發音為：ㄨㄛˇ ㄘㄠ ㄋㄧˇ ㄇㄚ。

• 馬勒戈壁：因為該地區有知名的草泥馬，因此又稱為「草泥馬戈壁」，發音為：ㄇㄚ ㄌㄧ ㄍㄜ˙ ㄅㄧ。

Miracle Drug - U2

Miracle Drug說的是一個真實的奇蹟，是關於愛爾蘭詩人Christopher Nolan的傳奇。Christopher Nolan和U2成員念過同一所高中，他出生時因他母親難產，缺氧了兩個小時，導致嚴重腦性痲痺而全身癱瘓。他的母親一直悉心照料他，並且沒有放棄治療他的希望。後來醫生找到一種藥物，使他的頸部肌肉恢復功能，歌名Miracle Drug即指那藥物。不過，Christopher Nolan仍然只能移動眼球和轉動頭部。Christopher Nolan的頭部裝了一個特殊裝置，讓他可以轉動頭部而指出他想要挑選的字來和外界溝通。儘管身患嚴重障礙，Christopher Nolan在15歲就創作了第一部詩集Dam Burst of Dreams，有詩評家認為那部詩集足以和愛爾蘭大詩人葉慈（William Butler Yeats, 1865-1939）及詹姆斯‧喬伊斯（James Joyce, 1882-1941）的詩作相提並論。Christopher Nolan於今年2月20日逝世，享年43歲。

We all went to the same school and just as we were leaving, a fellow called Christopher Nolan arrived. He had been deprived of oxygen for two hours when he was born, so he was paraplegic. But his mother believed he could understand what was going on and used to teach him at home. Eventually, they discovered a drug that allowed him to move one muscle in his neck. So they attached this unicorn device to his forehead and he learned to type. And out of him came all these poems that he'd been storing up in his head. Then he put out a collection called Dam-Burst of Dreams, which won a load of awards and he went off to university and became a genius. All because of a mother's love and a medical breakthrough.

The Saints Are Coming是2006年的新歌，寫歌的目的是為紐奧良災民募款。The Saints Are Coming收錄在精選輯U218 Singles中。




The Saints Are Coming的MV就很諷刺，美國有能力派軍到別國摧毀人家的家園，卻無力拯救自己人的免於災禍。MV中美軍向災民投遞救災物資的畫面是虛構的，那是要嘲諷美國政府與其侵略他國，還不如先去拯救自己的國民。

U2 in Obama Concert

這是我的偶象搖滾團體U2，在美國準總統歐巴馬的就職活動之一，林肯紀念堂外廣場舉行了露天音樂會「四海一家」（We Are One）中的表演，真是熱血奔騰啊！

Stay (Faraway, So Close!) - U2

Stay (Faraway, So Close!)是我最愛的歌曲之一，述說一個失意的人在尋求慰藉。

在U2的Stay (Faraway, So Close!)中，唱出人生的困境。一個人走到7-11中，想要買一包菸，雖然他並不抽菸。他穿得極為蠟塌，就像從被撞爛的車裡爬出來一樣。他的輪子仍在轉動，只不過人已經翻了車。可是他並不在意那種傷痛，因為至少傷痛讓他感覺自己活著......他獨自一人站在清晨街上看著廣告看板......或許他可以到天涯海角，可以渡過那一夜......

Stay (Faraway, So Close!)的靈感據說來自Frank Sinatra的音樂。Frank Sinatra昵稱瘦皮猴，著名美國男歌手和奧斯卡獎得獎演員。常被公認為20世紀最優秀的美國流行男歌手。




Frank Sinatra的音樂生涯始於搖擺樂時代，踏入1950年代初，Frank Sinatra曾一度陷入低潮，但未幾便成功在1953年因取得奧斯卡最佳男配角獎而捲土重來。Frank Sinatra曾經與Capitol唱片簽約，並發行了好幾張廣受好評的唱片（當中包括In the Wee Small Hours、Songs For Swingin' Lovers、Come Fly With Me、Only the Lonely和Nice 'n' Easy）。他後來又離開了Capitol唱片，轉為自立門戶，創立屬於自己的Reprise唱片（當中著名唱片計有Ring-A-Ding-Ding、Sinatra at the Sands和Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim），除了周遊各地外，在1960年代初甚至與鼠黨及美國總統甘迺迪建立起親如兄弟的友誼。

在1965年，即Frank Sinatra步入50歲的那年，他發行了一套名為September of My Years的唱片，作為對自己的回顧，其後他又有Strangers in the Night和My Way等曲更成為了膾炙人口的名曲。Frank Sinatra在後期曾嘗試貼近樂壇的轉變，而發行過好幾份風格截然不同的唱片，這些唱片之中的部份歌曲雖然曾在電影中播放過，可是始終不獲好評，結果促使他在1971年宣佈退休。不過到了1973年，辛納屈宣佈復出，除了在1976年娶Barbara Marx為妻，又重新發行唱片（其中又以New York, New York一曲最為有名），環遊各地演出，一直到在1998年去逝前數年才再度淡出。

My Way也是我最愛的歌曲之一，如果人生能活到像My Way中說的：「I've lived, a life that's full, I've traveled each and every highway. And more, much more than this, I did it my way.」，夫復何求？




Stay (Faraway, So Close!)也是德國大導演Wim Wenders的電影《咫尺天涯》（In weiter Ferne, so nah!，英譯Faraway, So Close!)的主題曲，《咫尺天涯》是《慾望之翼》（又譯《柏林穹蒼下》，Der Himmel über Berlin，英譯Wings of Desire）的續集。Bono坦承他受Wings of Desire的影響很深。Stay (Faraway, So Close!)的MV也是Wim Wenders執導的，拍攝地點也是柏林，MV就很有那兩部電影的味道。













如果說Wings of Desire中，對人生允滿憧景，那Faraway, So Close!就要告訴我們，人生中常常充滿無奈。Wings of Desire中，故事發生在德國柏林，主角是兩位天使Damiel和Cassiel，他們徘徊人世間傾聽人們的心聲，可是他們無法和人有任何接觸，他們從頭到尾都只是旁觀者。他們只能看著事情的發生，可是卻無法改變任何一切。可是，天使存在的意義又是什麼呢？天使，是向人類傳達訊息的使者，他們本身不是訊息，而訊息本身又是什麼呢？至到有一天Damiel愛上了馬戲團中的女藝人Marion，讓他厭倦了當旁觀者的日子，加上前天使Peter Falk說出了當人類最大的樂趣，能抽根菸和喝杯熱咖啡，Damiel開始心動而下凡，他的世界開始從深沉黑白，變成了明亮的彩色。而他，也尋找到他所愛，留下天使Cassiel仍然在理性地冷眼旁觀。

Faraway, So Close!是Wim Wenders實現他在Wings of Desire片尾的承諾，讓故事繼續。兩部電影相隔了七年，故事也相隔七年。這七年發生之中，世界發生了許多大事，而柏林圍墻也已經倒下了。唯一不變的，是人心。許多人，仍庸庸碌碌地活著，仍花費心思去擔心生活中的小細節而不在乎心靈；人仍然自以為是世界的主宰，可是卻不知世界才是自己的主宰；人仍然只在乎看得到聽的見的，不在乎不能輕易看見聽到的精神世界......而天使Cassiel，仍然不能理解人類究竟看的是什麼、聽的是什麼、活著是為什麼......他和女天使Raphaela只能望著人類的世界悲嘆。（請見〈天使來到人間 〉一文）

Stay (Faraway, So Close!)原收錄U2在1993年的專輯Zooropa中。Zooropa是很異類的搖滾專輯，充滿舞曲風格的歌曲，Stay (Faraway, So Close!)算是最正統的搖滾歌曲了。

Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2

Sunday Bloody Sunday是政治訴求非常強烈的歌，直接控訴「流血星期日」的不公不義。

流血星期日（愛爾蘭語: Domhnach na Fola）是指1972年1月30日，在北愛爾蘭德里/倫敦德里市（Derry/Londonderry）Bogside地區發生英國傘兵向正在遊行的市民開槍，造成14人死亡，13人受傷的事件。包括記者和旁觀者在內的很多人證明當時遭到槍擊的人都沒有攜帶武器。英國政府對這次事件進行了兩次調查。第一次調查叫做「Widgery Tribunal」，開脫了英國政府和大部分英國士兵的責任，但其公正性遭到了很多人士的批評。第二次調查目前仍然在進行中。

1972年1月30日，北愛爾蘭民權協會組織了一次反對英國在北愛爾蘭進行的不經審判就進行關押的收容制度的遊行。遊行原定向Guildhall行進，但是由於英國軍隊設置的路障的阻攔改向Free Derry Corner行進。一群堅持應該繼續向GuildHall前進的年輕人脫離了遊行的隊伍並開始辱罵英軍並投擲石塊。英軍使用水炮、催淚彈和橡皮子彈還擊。兩人被英軍士兵開槍打傷。

當時英軍司令部接到了有一個愛爾蘭共和軍的狙擊手在附近活動的情報。英軍下令使用實彈射擊。Jackie Duddy在被英軍驅趕的過程中被擊中身亡。遊行人群開始對英國軍隊進行更有攻擊性的行為，英軍則開始圍捕參加遊行的人群。最終英軍向人群發射了一百餘發子彈，又造成12人當場死亡，12人受傷，另有兩人被裝甲運兵車撞傷。

英國軍方在事件發生的第二天向英國議會作證時稱軍隊在反擊愛爾蘭共和軍的槍手和土製炸彈的進攻。但是包括遊行參加者、當地居民、英國和愛爾蘭記者在內的目擊證人（英國軍人除外）都證明英軍在向沒有武裝的人群開火，向正在逃跑的人和救助傷員的人瞄準射擊，但是沒有人向英軍射擊。英軍沒有人員受槍傷甚至沒有士兵報告任何傷害，現場也沒有找到子彈或者土炸彈。憤怒的愛爾蘭人攻佔並燒毀了英國駐愛爾蘭大使館。愛爾蘭外相專程赴紐約聯合國總部要求聯合國干預。但是由於英國擁有聯合國安理會否決權，聯合國不可能進行干預。

流血星期日是北愛爾蘭命運的一個主要負面轉折點。當英國軍隊剛剛到達北愛爾蘭的時候，北愛爾蘭的天主教徒認為英國軍隊是來保護他們的中性的軍隊。然而在流血星期日後，很多天主教徒都開始把英國軍隊看作是他們的敵人。持愛爾蘭民族主義信仰的年輕人更加向暴力的共和集團靠攏。新分黨和愛爾蘭共和軍則開始脫離主流民族主義和共和主義，倒向馬克思主義。愛爾蘭共和軍則獲得了很多極端的青年的支持。在此後的廿年內，北愛爾蘭陷入了共和派和保皇派雙方的准軍事組織的恐怖主義戰爭。雙方有數千人被謀殺或者暗殺。

Sunday Bloody Sunday收錄在U2在1983年推出的第三張專輯War。War是一張政治訴求非常強烈的專輯，Bono是個對政治現象很敏感的人，成名後也一直都為世界人權、慈善事物等付出心力。War對於戰爭和暴力有著強烈的控訴，封面延續了首張專輯Boy中的設計，天真無邪的小孩就得面對殘酷的戰爭與種種，帶著一絲的憤怒與無奈。滾石雜誌列Sunday Bloody Sunday為「史上五百大最佳歌曲」第268名，並列War為「史上五百大最佳專輯」第221名。




Sunday Bloody Sunday也用在電影Bloody Sunday的片尾曲。流血星期日發生卅周年的2002年出品的電影Bloody Sunday中描述的事件同遊行者的看法接近。Bloody Sunday拍得非常寫實，並在柏林影展奪得金熊獎以及日舞影展最佳影片。
